Widajati et al. (2012) menekankan pentingnya aspek mutu dalam pengertian benih. Benih yang baik harus memiliki identitas varietas yang benar (kemurnian genetik terjaga), mutu fisik yang tinggi, serta mutu fisiologis yang tinggi (viabilitas dan vigor kecambah yang baik).
