Persamaan diferensial orde kedua memiliki peranan yang sangat penting dalam bidang matematika terapan, khususnya dalam analisis sistem dinamis dan berbagai aplikasi keteknikan. Dalam bidang teknik elektro, persamaan diferensial orde kedua banyak digunakan untuk menganalisis respons rangkaian listrik, sistem kontrol, getaran mekanik, sistem tenaga listrik, dan fenomena osilasi lainnya.
