Because engineering decisions can significantly affect society, the environment, and human wellbeing, engineers must possess not only technical competence but also ethical awareness and professional responsibility. Modern engineering education therefore emphasizes the importance of understanding the broader social implications of engineering solutions and developing the ability to address ethical dilemmas. To support this objective, the Ethical Cycle serves as a systematic framework for ethical decision-making, guiding engineers in identifying stakeholders, evaluating competing values, analyzing alternative courses of action, and reflecting on the consequences of their decisions.
