Deskripsi
This course, rooted in philosophy, is designed to stimulate logical reasoning and challenge students to question concepts often taken for granted. This is one fundamental aspect of philosophy when “…one should expect philosophers to challenge, question, object” (Priest, 2006). Students will be encouraged to think logically, critically, and open-mindedly about a variety of topics. As this curriculum is rooted in the field of philosophy, we will revisit the fundamental principles and terminology introduced in the Basic Philosophy course to ensure a strong conceptual foundation. The course begins with a brief review of fundamental philosophical terminology and definitions, establishing a solid foundation for students to engage with the material. This is followed by an overview of the history of modern thought—a timeline exploring how human civilization has evolved into its current form. The subsequent curriculum is divided into four thematic units. First, students explore the complexities of identity. Second, they examine the “body vs mind” debate, investigating the enduring relationship between the two. Third, the course addresses appearance vs reality, particularly how truth is constructed and manipulated in the contemporary world. Finally, the study of political philosophy re-introduces various ideologies and systems of government relevant to today’s global dynamics.
