Deskripsi

One of the main differences between science and engineering is that engineering is not only concerned with understanding the world but also with improving it. Because engineering decisions can significantly affect society, the environment, and human wellbeing, engineers must possess not only technical competence but also ethical awareness and professional responsibility. Modern engineering education therefore emphasizes the importance of understanding the broader social implications of engineering solutions and developing the ability to address ethical dilemmas. To support this objective, the Ethical Cycle serves as a systematic framework for ethical decision-making, guiding engineers in identifying stakeholders, evaluating competing values, analyzing alternative courses of action, and reflecting on the consequences of their decisions. Through the application of the Ethical Cycle, engineers can develop the moral competencies and critical thinking skills necessary to address complex ethical challenges in engineering and technology (see Figure).
