It felt like someone was stepping down on my chest… with steel- tipped construction boots. The pain was severe and relentless. February 17, 2021, was a significant day in my life. At 8h15 on that fateful morning, I suffered a severe heart attack at the age of fifty- five. My wife and I had gone for our normal morning walk. February in Cape Town, South Africa, is breathtakingly beautiful. The air was still, and the days were balmy. The morning was perfect, with the sun just beginning to rise and the sky turning a beautiful shade of pink. The crisp morning air was filled with the sweet smell of ripe grapes. It was a fragrant reminder of the beautiful vineyards we were walking through. We admired the lush green vines and the bunches of different coloured grapes hanging from them. The vineyards stretched out in all directions, merging with the mountain slopes. We felt truly blessed to be able to live in such a beautiful and tranquil environment.
